Opening an Italian restaurant in East Berlin in April 1987 was quite an adventurous undertaking, as I had no opportunity whatsoever to get to know the authentic cuisine of the Mediterranean region. So I strolled into the Italian embassy in East Berlin, where surprisingly no one denied me access, and asked the present Signoras and Signores if they would be so kind as to visit my restaurant once, try the food, and give me their opinion. Which they did!
In the first menu from that year, it read:
"Take the best of all ingredients, as fresh as possible, and preserve their
character during preparation – within the realm of possibility."
Sounds a bit complicated, but it has remained my credo to this day.
In the more than three decades that have passed since then, I have migrated with my establishments from Köpenick via Savignyplatz to Prenzlauer Berg and now to Oberbaum – City, have received many awards and prizes for my work, and am still happy to be able to cook for the people of Berlin and visitors to the capital in my Trattoria Paparazzi. I still search for the best of all ingredients for my guests for dishes whose variety of flavors remains in memory.
Cooking is my great passion, and I am happy when regulars and new visitors mingle at the polished wooden tables of my restaurant. My friendly, experienced team and I look forward to your visit.
